Are fiberglass pools slippery?

Most pools are 3’ to 5’ deep. The flexibility of shotcrete is that we can custom shape your pool’s depth profile to your exact needs. A pool with a diving board must have an 8’ deep end to accommodate safety requirements.

Is it true I must spend hours per week maintaining my pool?

It is beneficial to brush your new pool’s finish often in the first thirty days for best results. Otherwise, maintaining a shotcrete pool is straightforward and simple. Regular water testing and balancing, filtration, heater, and pump maintenance are a part of pool ownership.

What is your warranty?

Workmanship and structural warranty is 1-Year. Pool equipment is 3-Years. Warranty information will be provided specific to your pool’s finish and mechanical options.

What is a fiberglass pool?

A fiberglass pool is a factory-crafted one-piece inground swimming pool with a gel-coat surface.

Is a fiberglass pool customizable?

Choices in size and shape are limited to manufacturer molds, but many models have built-in features such as benches, spas, tanning ledges, and steps. Water features such as bubblers and deck jets can be added also.

Can I use a salt system with fiberglass pools?

Yes, fiberglass tolerates salt systems well, but follow manufacturer’s guidelines.

Are fiberglass pools resistant to algae?

The smooth, non-porous gelcoat discourages algae growth on the pool’s surface, but proper sanitization and circulation are necessary.

Do fiberglass pool crack or have structural issues?

Shells are flexible and are unlikely to crack. If damage occurs, manufacturer or qualified technicians perform gelcoat repairs or structural fixes.

I hear fiberglass pools can float and pop out of the ground. Is this true?

With a proper installation including quality backfilling, buoyancy issues are corrected from the start. Only professional drainage (emptying) of the pool is recommended.

What is the warranty on a fiberglass pool?

Thursday Pools warranty is on par with the industry standard. A one-time transferable limited warranty includes a fiberglass pool limited lifetime structural warranty and a 15-year surface warranty. Talk to your sales representative for more information.

What are typical on-going costs of fiberglass pool ownership?

On-going costs will include chemicals, electricity for the pump, gas for the heater, occasional equipment service and repair or replacement, and water filling. Weekly pool services and pool openings and closings may also be recurring costs if you engage these services.

How is a fiberglass pool installed?

Once the excavation is complete, a carefully leveled base is prepared to support the fiberglass shell. The shell is then lowered into position, aligned, and secured before plumbing, circulation, and equipment systems are installed.

How is a shotcrete pool built?

Construction begins with laying out the pool design on site.

Excavation forms the shape of the structure. Steel reinforcement is installed to create the internal framework. Plumbing lines and fittings are positioned before the shotcrete is applied.

Shotcrete is then sprayed over the steel grid and shaped into the final structure. After curing, tile and coping are installed, equipment is connected, and the interior finish is applied.

How long does it take to build a pool?

A typical pool project will take about four to six weeks. However, there are many factors that can affect the time it will take to build your pool. Weather is the number one factor that can affect project time. The second is the complexity of the project. For example; Is it a pool/spa combination? What kind of pool are you building (fiberglass or shotcrete)? How complex is the surrounding decking? Is it a new home construction? Are there other contractors involved?

It is always our goal to finish your pool as quickly as possible without ever compromising quality. We will be happy to estimate the time it will take for your pool once we determine the type and design.

How long does the sales process take?

The sales and design process can go at your pace. It depends largely on your goals for your backyard. The typical time is about three to four weeks from initial meeting to an agreement but can take longer depending on the complexity of your project. Our designers try to get your plans together as timely as possible. We always encourage homeowners to plan ahead! It is never too early to start the process, even if you are a more than a year out.

What kind of pool should I build?

Without having a particular affinity for any type of pool, whether fiberglass or shotcrete, our designers will consult with you on what your particular goals are for your backyard. We help you to determine which is best for you based on your needs and budget.

Is the 3D Design free?

We are happy to design your new backyard retreat for you based on our home visit and conversation about what you are looking for. We will schedule a time for you to review the design in our showroom. There is a Design Retainer fee that is credited to your account if you decide to move forward with a pool contract.

How do I know what I like? I’ve never had a swimming pool.

Our designers are experienced and will show you designs in order to help determine what you like and don’t like. It also helps for you to go to Pinterest or other sites and save ideas that you like, even if they are very different from each other. We will help guide you through the design process.

How much does a swimming pool cost?

Our residential swimming pool projects start at about $75,000+ but costs will clearly vary depending on the complexity of your project.

What is included in your installed pricing?

Everything regarding the pool and/or spa. We’ll take care of zoning permits, the excavation and removal of spoils, installation of the pool, plumbing, pool coping, heater, pump, filter, salt chlorinator, LED lighting and the winter/safety cover. Shotcrete pools include other materials such as tile and interior finish.

What type of equipment (brand) does Hawaiian Pools install?

Hawaiian Pools is proud to install Pentair Pool and Spa equipment and white goods. We are a Pentair Warranty Service Center. With this, we offer our clients up to 3 years of coverage on their equipment versus a standard 1 year warranty.

What are the warranties on pools?

Does the price increase during the construction process; like when building a home?

Typically, the final contracted price does not change unless the client alters materials and/ or design concepts. Any alteration to design or pricing must be approved by both parties and submitted via a change order.

How do I start the process of buying a swimming pool?

How much room do you need to access our backyard for pool construction?

We will need a minimum 10’ of space to gain access to the yard to build the pool. We need the room to bring in the equipment necessary to excavate the hole, remove dirt as needed and haul materials in and out of the jobsite.

Do you use sub-contractors?

Hawaiian Pools employs our own construction crews and service personnel as well as support staff. We own our own equipment, such as dump trucks and excavators, etc. We work with professional partners for the surrounding decking of the pool as well as the electrical hook ups and gas plumbing. You do not need to make any phone calls during the construction process as we coordinate the full project.

What else do I need to arrange for the project?

We will help coordinate as much as possible throughout the project. We can refer you to experienced HVAC, Electrical, decking and landscaping contractors for those aspects of the job. Once selected, we will work hand in hand with those contractors to coordinate the timing of their work in an efficient manner.

What is done with all the dirt once excavated for the new pool?

There will be a lot of dirt excavated in order make room for your new pool. Depending on the slope of your yard, we will determine how much of the excavated soils should remain onsite to level everything out once the pool and decking are completed. Any extra dirt will be hauled out, to other locations where the soil can be used for various other applications.

What is shotcrete?

Shotcrete is a pneumatically applied wet-mix concrete sprayed onto a rebar framework to shape the pool shell. It is highly durable, flexible for custom shapes, with excellent structural strength.

How much do shotcrete pools cost?

Expect a custom range depending on the size, shape, options, and water features. Starting at about $85K for small to mid-size, shotcrete pools will fall in to the $90K to $130K range. Large, complex projects will go up from there. Speak to your pool designer for an estimate on your project!

How long does it take to build a shotcrete pool?

A shotcrete pool typically takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete. A shotcrete pool/spa combination can be 6 to 8 weeks. Larger, complex designs may take longer.

Do shotcrete pools crack?

Minor hairline cracks occasionally occur from settling or shrinkage at the initial stage of curing, without consequence. Major structural cracking is uncommon when built correctly. A shotcrete shell is unquestionably the most durable and structurally sound type of pool.

Does your crew work everyday from start to finish when building a shotcrete pool?

While it is our goal to keep the job moving for an efficient project, there are necessary pauses throughout the process. Weather almost always is a factor, especially in the Spring. The nature of a shotcrete project is that the first major steps go rather quickly. Activity slows while plumbing, tile, coping, and equipment installation take place. Once these steps are complete, the deck contractor’s work must be completed. Interior finish application is the final step in the pool building process for shotcrete pools.
