Pool Care| Go ‘Green’
DID YOU KNOW?
You can have an environmentally friendly pool!
Ways to Conserve Water & Energy
- Install a floating or fixed pool cover. As much as 70% of a pool’s heat loss is caused by evaporation. A pool cover will help reduce evaporation significantly as well as keep your pool or spa more clean. An added benefit is the need to add chemicals will be reduced by up to fifty percent!
- Reduce your pool water’s temperature during peak summer heat. Let the sun do the work! This lower energy use will not only reduce your carbon footprint, but your heating bill, too.
- Keep your pool’s cleaning and equipment clean and well-maintained. Call Hawaiian Pools for regular cleanings & service.
- Install or convert to a Salt Chlorine Generator. Salt water pools have a slightly lower evaporation rate and use fewer chemicals than other pools.
- Create a windbreak around your pool with plants and shrubs. This will not only make your environment more attractive but will reduce evaporation caused by wind.
- Consider solar heating systems to save on your energy consumption.
Salt In My Pool???
Yes! Salt water pools have been popular for many years in other parts of the country and world and are rapidly becoming a the norm for Midwest pool owners. A salt chlorine generator’s main function is to produce chlorine for your pool so you don’t have to buy it, store it, or handle it. Many pool owners find these to be nice advantages!
Salt water pools are not chlorine free pools. A salt water pool is simply one that utilizes a chlorine generator. They are not an alternative to chlorine, but actually make chlorine by producing it from regular table salt. The pool water passes through a generator cell that introduces chlorine into the pool.
Swimming in a mild saline solution can be much like taking a nice bath or shower in soft water. The water feels smooth, your skin feels smooth and many people feel more refreshed after swimming in a salt water pool.
The amount of salt in your pool is hardly noticeable. Once the salt is added to the pool, there is no need to add salt on a regular basis unless the pool is drained or a significant amount of water has been removed. Also, the salt level is low enough so there is no danger of equipment erosion.
